Branched-chain amino acids, commonly referred to as BCAA’s, are essential amino acids that your body cannot produce so you have to acquire them through your diet. They are the building blocks of protein, and therefore necessary for muscle growth, repair, and recovery. Though the 3 BCAA’s, leucine, isoleucine, and valine, work well together, leucine has been shown to benefit the body’s cells the most. USP Labs really caters to this requirement by using a unique ratio of BCAA’s in their formula. Here is my USP Labs Modern BCAA review.
USP Labs Modern BCAA includes a potent 8:1:1 BCAA ratio, leucine being the dominant BCAA. It’s been shown that leucine is the major player in protein synthesis and muscle growth, but it can’t function to the best of it’s ability solo. The BCAA’s in Modern BCAA are all ultra-micronized, resulting in better mixing, a lighter, less syrupy drink, and more efficient absorption compared to non-micronized BCAA’s. Sustamine is L-alanyl-L-glutamine. It’s a glutamine dipeptide which is more water soluble and more stable than L-glutamine. Sustamine has been shown to provide your muscles with more glutamine than L-glutamine since less gets destroyed during intestinal transport before it reaches the bloodstream and the skeletal muscles. Modern BCAA also includes an electrolyte blend to help maintain hydration. There are no artificial colours and no sugar.
Modern BCAA mixes up fairly well since the BCAA’s are ultra-micronized. However, if you use less water than recommended, or if the water is really cold, you may get some foaming due to the high amount of amino acids (especially leucine!) per serving. The foam will dissipate after a little bit of light shaking. Avoid vigorous shaking.
I really don’t like super sweet, tongue-coating fruity drinks, especially while I’m working out. Modern BCAA is refreshingly light and the flavours are low intensity. The flavours available are white blue raspberry, fruit punch and grape bubblegum. White blue raspberry is my preference.
I used Modern BCAA as an intra-workout drink, sipping on it a little before but consuming most of it during my training. The results for me were some of the best I’ve had from a BCAA supplement. During training I felt more hydrated and was less fatigued. I also noticed both my strength and endurance increase. The ingredients used must be really effective at getting into your muscles because I have never experienced muscle gains like that while taking any other BCAA supplement. As for recovery, it was amazing, even after the heaviest lift days!
USP Labs Modern BCAA is a must-have in your supplement arsenal. The ingredient profile is clean and simple with just the essentials, no sugar and no artificial colours. Providing the BCAA’s in the potent ratio of 8:1:1, and including the unique form of glutamine, has shown to be very effective at supporting muscle growth and greatly improving recovery. There are two versions of USP Labs Modern BCAA. The original provides 10g of amino acids per serving. If you’re looking for even more, check out the new Modern BCAA+ which provides 15g of amino acids per serving, available in blue raspberry.
